Hi, not sure how else to contact you. I've been squatting for a few years, when i first started i didnt get back pain, but after a few months (of using barbell) i started getting lower back pain. Now when I squat its quite bad (with weight ot just body weight). max ive managed to back squat is 100kg. also after squatting, the next day my quads are never sore; just butt and lower back. If i body squat i fall backwards and my shins are almost vertical. ive tried plates under heels, front squatting, wide stance, narrow stance, squatting barefoot; nothing helped. i keep my toes pointed forward as i was getting knee pain when pointing out and doctor advised me to do so. here's a video of me squatting, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HVf0IpLqzM&feature=share&list=UUgRFy7Q42kRJykxZBbVZo0A
I would start w. some goblet squatting to groove the movement a bit, then start again w. the barbell. It's pretty important to feel confident at the bottom of the range of motion first imho.
Is their anyway I could get your email address to show you a video of me squatting?.. I have been having a lot of lower back pain in the upper buttocks right around my buttocks crack to the right and then my other side of my lower back hurts the next day probably from this pain. I self diag. a SI joint/ligament area injury.
I have hypothesized that this is from sitting back too much during the high bar squat or from too much forward lean during the squad. have you ever heard anything similar to this or the same symptoms?
After seeing, literally, hundreds of people struggling (sometimes unknowingly) with squat form, I decided to create the Squat Rx instructional videos on squat form and training. This blog is meant to be a platform for those videos, and a place of discussion about strength and conditioning issues for coaches, trainers, teachers, athletes, students, and enthusiasts. Posts and articles are meant to provoke thought, inspiration, and reflection. My athletic background is in gymnastics, Tae Kwon Do, competitive swimming, powerlifting, and kettlebells. I have coached swimming at the age-group, high school, D3, and masters levels, served as a S&C coach at the high school level, and conducted kettlebell workshops and classes for CrossFit, high school students, and personal trainers.
Please leave a comment or a question. Good Squatting!
